Shoreline Mafia Releases Nostalgic “Change Ya Life” Visuals

In just a few short years, Shoreline Mafia has been able to amass a large national following, establishing a fortified sonic and stylistic influence on the West Coast and beyond. Unfortunately however, It appears their run as a group will soon come to an end, as standout member Fenix Flexin has announced he will depart after the release of Shoreline’s next album Mafia Bidness. Given that Mafia Bidness marks the closing of an era, the project’s first single “Change Ya Life” is particularly exciting, as it gives us a glimpse of what we can expect to hear on the album. From listening to this song, it is safe to say that Shoreline fans have much to look forward to.

Produced by Helluca, “Change Ya Life” features the hype west coast production style that Shoreline fans have grown to love, with a groovy bassline, enchanting piano melody and prominent percussion. Vocally, the song features just Ohgeesy and Fenix, the groups frontmen.  Ohgeesy employs a casual flow, dropping braggadocious bars on the hook and contributing a solid closing verse, while Fenix rocks out on the first verse with a straight forward, low registered delivery.

The song’s accompanying visualizer features a compilation of clips from the group’s past concerts, studio sessions and interviews that will surely conjure up nostalgic feelings. Although this track makes their forthcoming album appear promising, it’s release will certainly be a bittersweet moment. Still, I am excited to see what the collective can cook up for their finale, which releases July 31st, and I am equally excited at the prospect of each artists’ respective solo career.
