Rockstar Payso Is One Of Our Favorite Artists Out Of NYC
You’ve probably heard Rockstar Payso’s voice before. Whether it was the tag over the supremely-hyped 6ix9ine GOOBA beat (produced by Jahnei Clarke) or over several Take A Daytrip joints, Rockstar has been lurking in hip hop for a minute now. When I met him for the first time in person, it was at Take A Daytrip‘s NYC-based No Idle Studios in SoHo during his session with Roy Lenzo (most known for his production on Lil Nas X and Cardi B‘s “Rodeo”).
I had already heard of him from his performance at Brooklyn-based fashion brand Kid Super‘s Halloween Party (alongside A$AP Rocky and other stars from the music scene). His loyal fanbase has had the luxury of hearing him on New York’s HOT 97 and seeing him on Pigeons and Planes’ Top 10 Artists to Watch. Having opened for the likes of YNW Melly at SOBs NYC (on the day he was locked up) or for Big Boi of Outkast and even DJ Scheme / Danny Towers, Payso is known for shutting down concerts before they even start. In fact it seemed like Payso’s career was about to take off with a 2020 international tour coming down the pipeline before COVID hit. Since then he’s been cooking up track after track for his debut project “Black Sunday.”
We now have received the first single of the album, “EMERALD” along with a Modern Day Auteur directed visual. This melodic trap banger, produced by Ace (@yayapack), writer of the Hot 100 #1 Trollz, is a mere preview of the experimentation to come on the project. Do yourself a favor and get acquainted with Rockstar Payso’s music and videos before he blows up. Nearly everybody he’s surrounded by is a integral piece of our modern pop-culture, which seems to be a clear indication that we should expect the same from him. Get hip below.
