Rhakim Ali Delivers a Necessary Message “For Those Who Need It”
In an age where popular music often lacks coherent messaging, Rhakim Ali stands out as an artist who is not afraid to tackle important issues. On his latest track “For Those Who Need It,” Ali directly addresses racism and police brutality, expressing solidarity with nationwide protests.
“For Those Who Need It” serves as a strong single ahead of Ali’s upcoming album You Should Be Sorry, available July 10th. The track features a straight forward instrumental, produced by Ali himself, with a relaxing piano loop and strings to provide additional texture. However, where Ali truly shines is his lyrical performance, particularly on the second verse where he pays homage to several police brutality victims such as Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice and Mike Brown.
The track’s visual is shot in black and white and features a host of civil rights imagery, including a “no justice, no peace” sign and people with raised fists. The video also shrewdly interjects with news clips relevant to the cases Ali references.
